Development of materials and equipment for the reduction of HF emissions, INNPACTO Project

Coordinates:
NEOS ADDITIVES, S.L.
Participants:
AZULIBER 1, S.L.
CERAMICA VILAR ALBARO, S.L.
ITC
MAINCER, S.L.

The Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC) has worked together with the companies AZULIBER, CERÁMICAS VILAR ÁLBARO, NEOS ADDITIVES and MAINCER, in the project: "Development of materials and equipment for the reduction of HF emissions", a project financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness within the program INNPACTO. With the file number IPT -2011-1410-310000.

Thanks to the research carried out, an innovative procedure could be implemented in the ceramic industries aimed at reducing the emissions to the atmosphere of the so-called acid compounds (mainly fluorine) that are produced during the firing of ceramic tiles.

The procedure consists of the application of a coating on the lower surface of the tiles. This layer is designed in such a way that its components react with the acidic compounds, having the capacity to retain them at high temperature.

The degree of compliance with the objectives of the project has been high, given that it has been possible to reduce, on an industrial level, the emissions of fluorine compounds between 35 and 45%. This reduction is sufficient to meet the limits established by the regulations that will come into force in 2013 with regard to the cooking of red-paste tiles. As for porcelain tiles, the emission values are slightly higher than those allowed, so it is necessary to continue working on this line in order to improve the effectiveness of the coating.

The good results obtained at the industrial level encourage participating companies and ITC to continue working on this line of research, with the aim of having an alternative system to the installation of filters, so that companies can select the debugging procedure more suitable depending on the product they make, whether they are red-paste tiles or porcelain tiles.

"Project financed by the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Innovation
Technological, 2008-2011 and the European Fund for Regional Development FEDER "
